National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse

Saving Lives Through Collaborative Action

Category Archives: Schools

The  NCAPDA is passionate about educating students about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.  Our hope is that by building awareness about pain killers, anti-anxiety and stimulant oriented medications, we can have a positive impact on the average number of youth who are losing their lives or becoming addicted as a result of these drugs each year.
School campuses provide very important venues for education about the dangers of prescription drugs abuse, which has become a problem from as early as middle school through college.   Although it is not the case today, prescription drug education should be included in every school, college or university’s drug education program.
Following are suggested ways to engage schools in building awareness programs on their campuses.  NCAPDA resources are available for consultation on how to build a program that will work best on individual campuses throughout the educational spectrum.

Prescription drugs have been created to help people with specific medical conditions.  It’s very important that a doctor properly prescribe medications based on family and medical history in addition to a complete analysis of the patient’s current medical condition. When prescription drugs are abused, the results can be fatal from just one “try”. Prescription medications are easily accessible in most towns/cities.  They are perceived as safe when compared with street drugs, … Continue reading →
