This documentary, developed by the FBI and DEA, features stark first-person accounts told by individuals who have abused opioids or whose children have abused opioids, with tragic consequences.  Its aim is to educate students, young adults and parents about the danger of prescription drug abuse and the possible downstream impact of addiction.  The title refers to the never-ending pursuit of the original or ultimate high through prescription drug/heroin abuse.

“Out of Reach” is a special documentary created by a teen filmmaker who captures the issue of teen prescription drug abuse as it exists in his world. The issues contained in the film are a reflection of this issue across the country. It was created in collaboration with director Tucker Capps (of A&E’s “Intervention”) and the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids’ Medicine Abuse Project. The target audience is parents but is also good viewing for mature teens. News Current News ‘Completely devastating’ U.S. passes 1M overdose deaths since records began’  A grim milestone was met in May 2022 as overdose deaths surpassed more than 1 million since records began tracking two decades ago. 2021 saw a 15% increase of overdose deaths from the previous year with an estimated 107, 622 fatalities.  There has been a significant increase of overdose deaths for black boys and men. Additionally, despite drug use generally decreasing among teenage-aged youth, overdose deaths have doubled in recent years. Fentanyl is responsible for a large portion of recent overdose fatalities.
