Honoring My Mom's Life: Raising Money to Prevent Substance Use Disorder through Running

Information about the Fundraiser in Brittany's Own Words

“Hi! I’m Brittany Clark, and my mother’s name was Brenda. On April 3rd, 2023, Brenda passed away after years of misuse and abuse of prescription pills.

In her younger years, she was an avid runner. I remember waiting for her to return from her Saturday morning runs so we could spend time together, and I recall how happy she would be after a great run. She ultimately inspired me to take up running in my 20s. Now in my 30s, although it’s been some time since I participated in a race, I have decided to run a half marathon in her honor. On April 14th, near the anniversary of her passing, I will be running the San Diego Beach & Bay Marathon.

I mourned the loss of my relationship with my mother years before her passing, so it was difficult to know the best way to honor her and her memory. After some soul-searching, I’ve decided to run this race to raise money for The National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse. I can’t think of a better way to honor her than to help others avoid the same fate.

Please help me raise as much money as possible for this amazing organization doing some great work. I’m hoping for at least $3,000, but let’s not stop there!

On behalf of myself and Brenda, thank you for your contribution and inspiration to finish this race!  I would love to see you at the race to cheer me on if you’re able to be there!”

Note:  NCAPDA’s mission is to prevent prescription drug related substance use disorder and fatal overdose through community education, policy change and legislative advocacy.
